This house was the first house in town with indoor plumbing. There were only 4 previous owners including the home of a very influential local man, Judge Laird Barber, who ran for Congress in 1896 but was not elected. He was the principal of Mauch Chunk public schools from 1875-1880. He practiced law in Mauch Chunk about 4 years after the Molly McGuire trails. He was the director of the Mauch Chunk school board and served as president and treasurer, also secretary of the town council. He died in 1928 and was interred in the Evergreen cemetery in East Mauch Chunk.
