Hassinger Daniels Mansion Bed and Breakfast is for Sale

The Property was sold in 2023 by a Realtor for $2.1 million as a turn-key (furnishings and equipment included).  The Buyer, unfortunately, did not financially qualify.  The Property is now listed in 2024 as For Sale by Owner for $1.974 million but without realtor fees, offered as a turn-key with furnishings and eqipment included.  It may also be purchased without its furnishings and equipment, subject to negotiation.

The Buyer is invited to savor the splendor of the Golden Era of the Victorian period by owning and operating this 1898 National Historic Registered Hassinger Daniels Mansion Bed and Breakfast, located on the silk stocking row of Highland Avenue South in the Five Points Historic District.  The Mansion was built  by Wilhelm and Virginia Hassinger, head of Birmingham's booming iron industry.  The next door neighbor was the Sloss family, head of the steel industry.  A few blocks away was the Woodward family, builders of the rail road.   The 2nd Owners were Roy and Venoa Daniels who established his Optometric practice, some other businesses, and their home in the Property.  

The Mansion was purchased December 2010 by its 3rd owners, Sheila and Ira Chaffin, an Architect/Urban Planner and a Sculptor, who undertook a substantial construction and code upgrade, thus savingthe Mansion for future generations to enjoy.  The reconstruction was plan checked and built under City supervision of the International Building Code, and historic standards of the City, County, State, and Federal Government (Department of the Interior).  The property now boasts full fire suppression including standing water fire spinklers, hard wired smoke detectors, alarms, strobes, required exits, annunicators and 24/7 fire protection.  A City fire station is 3 blocks away and a City Police Department is 2 blocks nearby.

The Mansion's exterior is excellent quality brick with limestone accents.  The joisted wood interior features 7 fireplaces with original restored mantles, Victorian tiles, and iron fireplace insert surrounds.  Gorgeous hand blown circular shaped Victorian Heradeltry themed glass graces the main staircase and several other locations.  The Weset end of the building has a 4 story octagonal architectual Turret with Cuppola.   A working Servants Stair is still intact as well as a Servant Girl dishwashing sink in the Butler's Pantry.  

Today with 10 guest room plus owner's quarters, the property is the largest Bed and Breakfast in the State of Alabama. 

The Mansion is the highlight of the Five Points Historic District, which is now the City's Culinary District with 25 restaurants within a 3 block walkable radius of the Mansion.  Four nationally prominent restaurants are neighbors -- Highland Bar and Grill, Chez Fon Fon, Bottega Cafe and Bottega Restaurant. Their distinguished award winning Chef Frank Stitts, has been the "Best Chief in the United States" by the James Beard Foundation.  The University of Alabama at Birmingham, the State's largest employer, is 2 blocks away. 

There are 5 nearby hospitals which Trauma ER's.  Patients arrive by ambujlance, personal vehicles, airplanes and helicopter life flights.  Their families stay at the Mansion.  The University of Alabama at Birmingham, the largest employer in the State, is 2 blocks nearby which provides a steady year round flow of BB guests who are students, parents, professors, lectures, other administrators, salespersons, and medical doctors and nurses.
