The Horse and Hound Inn started as a nineteenth century farmhouse around 1930 and is now one of New England’s finest traditional Bed and Breakfast Inns situated “off the beaten path” on the north side of Cannon Mountain in Northern New Hampshire. The first owner was William Tally Ruxton, a devotee of the emerging sport of downhill skiing. In 1946 using timber from the property, Ruxton added the guest rooms and almost immediately the Horse and Hound became a player in the new game of winter hospitality, hosting quests of local resident and actress Bette Davis’ such as the famous Joan Fontaine. There have been eight owners of the property, all preserving it in its quaint, cozy fashion. This quintessential Old Fashioned New England Bed & Breakfast Inn is situated on 8 +/- acres in the heart of the White Mountains of New Hampshire and is adjacent to Franconia Notch State Park and Cannon Mountain. The 8,960 +/- square foot Inn includes 10 guest rooms, 2 owner’s rooms, and 9 baths on the second floor. The first floor is comprised of a quaint bar and lounge, a large fireplaced lobby and two dining rooms with seating for 90 patrons. The Inn includes an over-sized, well-equipped kitchen and bakery. Guests may also enjoy the patio with screened dining area overlooking the well landscaped back lawn which is perfect for hosting weddings, receptions and parties. Located “off the beaten path”, yet close to all the attractions with an abundance of activities for all, it is a wonderful place to visit time and time again
